Carey was 5'10 inches tall when she became a leading model. The popularity of her among American designer Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was high. She is the daughter of a distinguished geologist, who was in 1979 named Scientist of the year by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. As a result of his work, Carey has been raised across the world. Modeling began part time during her time studying at university at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent for the Ford model Agency in New York. In 1980, she moved to France where she briefly resided in Paris and Bordeaux, before returning in New York in order to explore an acting career. Her work was showcased on Vogue and Glamour pages. As a model, she studied at New York University full-time to get a literature degree. Gradually she became interested in acting, and began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986, she made her debut as an actor with a small part as a minor character in "Club Paradise" alongside Robin Williams. She loves rock climbing ski, windsurfing, and skiing.
